Phoenix is AKC Registered

AKC Registered Mixed Breed

Phoenix Page

So, something really cool happened last night that I wanted to share. As of 5/12/2021, Phoenix is an officially registered AKC Canine! She is listed under the name Phoenix Page, All American Breed. Yes, you read that  right! All American Breed! Why is this such a big deal, you ask? For decades the American Kennel Club was for Purebred Canines only. This left out a lot of pups with great potential, especially the Pit Bull Mixed Breeds. Not to mention the recent big boom in “designer breeds” like the Labordoodles, Goldendoodles, and all the doodles in between. Of course I wouldn’t expect to see a Pitty mix in the Westminster Dog Show anytime soon, but this does open up programs like the Canine Good Citizen, which I think is a great program for dogs and their owners. In my opinion, the AKC really started opening doors for mixed breeds in 2013 with their AKC Rescue Program – working with shelters across the world.

I guess another reason I am so excited about her being registered is because this is the first time since I was 14 years old I’ve had an AKC-registered dog. Then it was Cody, a purebred Pomeranian that I trained with my grandmother in AKC Obedience Competition. I remember having to send in bloodlines to prove he was from Purebred AKC Registered parents. This time for Phoenix Page it was very easy. For the breed I just marked Phoenix as an All American Breed, paid the entry fees, and Phoenix was welcomed with opened arms. They are even sending her an AKC Registered tag for her collar. I know it isn’t much, but it is the thought that counts. It is nice to see an organization that has as much influence in the Dog Training Industry as they do, stepping up for the Mixed Breeds. Maybe the human race can learn a thing or two from this.
